What is Exploring?

Exploring exists to teach important life and career skills to young people from all backgrounds through immersive career experiences and mentorship provided by community and business leaders. Together, we equip young people with character, leadership and life skills that can be used both today and in their future careers.

Exploring provides exciting activities and one-on-one mentorship for youth looking to discover their future. Whether you’re a local organization looking to strengthen the community or a young person wanting to uncover the possibilities of your future, Exploring is a great place to start. Exploring is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth and the organizations in their communities. Businesses and community organizations initiate a career-specific Explorer post by matching their people and organizational resources to the career interests of youth in the community. The result is a program of interactive activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow, and develop.

Most Career Exploring programs align with the high school calendar and begin in the fall, while some also offer summer activities, conferences, internships and other events. Most meet once or twice a month throughout the school year.

Why Exploring?

"You can actually see young people grow, becoming members of the community as their curiosity is satisfied through Exploring. We attract sharp young people during their formative years."

- Hal S., Exploring Adult Volunteer

"Exploring is a great program that helped me associate the concepts I am learning in high school with practical uses in the real world."

- Frank B., Exploring Youth Participant

"My daughter thoroughly enjoyed her opportunity to participate in the Explorers Program at Hendricks Regional Health this past year. The timing of it was perfect. Going into her junior year of high school she knew that she was interested in the medical field for a career, and her experience with Explorers was an excellent program to help her settle into that decision. She came home every month excited about all that she got to see and learn. Now in her senior year we both have a better idea concerning colleges and future degrees for her, hopefully resulting in a future Doctor of Physical Therapy."
