CENTRAL 9 CAREER CENTER – POST #416 (FIRE/EMS)
The CERT Fire/Rescue program at Central Nine Career Center provides an opportunity for juniors and seniors enrolled at Central Nine from area schools to train like firefighters. They learn skills that are taught to meet the criteria of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security for fire certifications. Included is: ladder operations, engine operations, advancement of hose lines, physical fitness, radio communications, hazardous materials operations, CPR, SIDS awareness, among other skills that firefighters use. The class is physically demanding, we do some sort of physical training almost daily. The class gives the opportunity to receive high school credit, 12 hours of college credit from Ivy Tech, and state certifications that are required to work as a firefighter here in the state of Indiana.
